The style and layout of the Shahnama Paintings reminded me of art from the Heian period in Japan. More specifically the Tales of Genji scrolls. The hieratic nature of the Shahnama paintings and the adventurous nature of the stories are similar to that of the Tales. However, there are obvious differences. For example, the figures in the Shahnama paintings are more static than the ones in the Tales of Genji and they are a lot more vibrant as well. I thought that finding similarities between the two was very interesting.
